Ewedu is the smooth, silky Yoruba soup made from finely blended jute leaves. The leaves are cooked down until they turn glossy and slightly drawy, then lifted with iru (locust beans), ground crayfish and a little pepper. The flavour is gentle and green rather than fiery, which is exactly why it works so well beside bolder dishes.
Traditionally it is eaten with amala or any swallow of your choice, and it pairs beautifully with gbegiri and a spoon of tomato stew. Spice level is mild.
The container charge is already included in the price. Eat it hot at our table in Remera, or order online for pickup or delivery anywhere in Kigali from Jollof Bistro — The Best Nigerian Food in Kigali.
